NO-FILTER CASE STUDY
Inside a 6M+ View Youth TV Breakout: How I Produced, Wrote & Cast “No Filter” With Zero Budget at 20
My Role
Creator, Producer & Showrunner
(Visual Sensations x JITTV x Play Africa TV)
Cross-functional leadership across creative direction, casting, scripting, production, partnerships, and youth content development.
The Challenge
At 20, I wanted to create a television show that felt real, honest, and centred young African women — something joyful, messy, vulnerable, and unfiltered.
The problem?
There was no funding, no crew, no studio budget, and no roadmap for young producers to get into TV.
The challenge was to:
• build an entirely new youth talk show concept
• recruit and manage a cast with no budget
• secure celebrity guests
• convince studios to let us film
• handle production logistics end to end
• make it feel professional enough for TV
• build a team from peers with no industry experience (shoutout to my sister and best friend (now fiancé)
• deliver episodes on a timeline with zero money
I didn’t have a kit, a network, or money — just the conviction to make it happen.
The Solution
1. Create a women-centered, honest talk show format
I designed No Filter as a safe space where young women could talk candidly about identity, culture, relationships, mental health, and the things we were too scared to say out loud.
2. Build a production ecosystem from scratch
I recruited a full team:
• cast
• co-hosts
• producers
• camera ops
• editors
• photographers
• studio crew
All peers. All self-taught. All willing to learn.

Key Contributions & Strategic Impact
Led cross-functional initiatives across content innovation, global partnerships, creator programmes, and internal operations.
Secure partnerships with real studios and broadcasters
I partnered with:
JITTV & Play Africa TV
to allow us to film, edit, and distribute the show.
Deliver episodes without funding
We used borrowed offices, borrowed cameras, donated spaces, and sheer resourcefulness to build a broadcast-quality show.
Including Partnerships With:
Magamba Network, 1+1 , DSTV & more
Concept Development & Show Design
I created the entire show format:
• segment structure
• thematic direction
• visual language
• brand identity
• discussion topics
• audience positioning
Together with my sister we recruited and selected a panel of:
• diverse young voices
• creators
• writers
• presenters
• opinionated personalities
Celebrity Guest Outreach & Booking
With no budget, I secured high-profile Zimbabwean guests through:
• relationship-building
• email + DM outreach
• pitching the value of women-led media
• positioning the show as culturally relevant
Getting celebrities to show up to an unfunded youth show was a major credibility win.
I also handled:
• talent prep
• coaching
• on-screen direction
• conflict mediation
• episode topic breakdowns
This ensured the cast felt confident and grounded.
Production Management & On-Set Direction
I led production by:
• booking venues
• sourcing locations
• borrowing equipment
• setting shoot schedules
• directing scenes
• guiding the cast
• managing run-of-show
• overseeing lighting + sound basics
• planning retakes and pickups
I operated like a producer-director hybrid.
Editing Oversight & Post-Production
I coordinated with editors to deliver:
• episode edits
• color grading
• subtitles
• social cutdowns
• thumbnail concepts
• publishing schedules
I ensured final output stayed aligned with the show’s tone and message.
